Here’s the subheading of Arti’s Ripple Effects:
Books, Movies, Arts and Entertainment: Resonance and hindsight of an armchair critic~~~~
I’d like to see myself as a movie, book, arts and music lover, freelance researcher/writer and self-imposed social commentator from Western Canada. Throughout my life I’ve been coping with contradictions, constantly reconciling dualities: as a nature-loving urbanite, academic in mind and bohemian in heart, straddling on the fence separating cultures and languages. In recent years, I’ve started to see the advantage of adopting a hybrid identity, accepting and allowing the multiple roles, passions and interests to co-exist in the attempt to re-invent myself. Maybe the following list of favorites could speak more than I can say in words about me. As life is ever changing, the content will be updated as soon as I’m caught up with my hindsight.
Favorite Movies: Casablanca, To Kill A Mockingbird, Dances With Wolves, Pride and Prejudice (1995 BBC/A&E), The Stickup, The Music of Chance, Out of Africa, Away From Her, Miss Potter, When Did You Last See Your Father, I’ve Loved You So Long…
Favorite Books: The Bible, Bleak House, The Chosen, My Name Is Asher Lev, An American Childhood, Pilgrim At Tinker Creek, The Journals of Madeleine L’Engle, Pride and Prejudice, To Kill A Mockingbird, Girl With A Pearl Earring, all the Harry Bosch novels (Michael Connelly), The Remains Of The Day, Lucky Man, The Kite Runner, Atonement, The Glass Castle, Unaccustomed Earth, The Elegance of the Hedgehog…
Favorite Authors/Poets: Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Emily Dickenson, Michael Connelly, Annie Dillard, Robert Frost, Kazuo Ishiguro, Jhumpa Lahiri, Chaim Potok, Magaret Avison, Madeleine L’Engle, Lucy Shaw, William Wordsworth…
Favorite Musician/Composers: Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, The Beatles, Eva Cassidy, Simon and Garfunkel, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, John Coltrane, Frank Morgan, Carly Simon, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Steve Bell, Stuart Townend…
Favorite Movie Music: Cast Away, Open Range, Dances With Wolves, For Love of the Game, Kate and Leopold, Somewhere In Time, Out Of Africa, Bridget Jones’ Diary, When Did You Last See Your Father, Miss Potter, music in episodes of Boston Legal…

I see you’re an Annie Dillard fan, too…. she’s quite a writer – wonderful insights and observations.

Hi Arti! I just dropped by to say thanks for visiting my new blog and for your kind comments.
I also read with interest your recent “to read or not to read posts”. I started to type a response, but realized it would be quite long, so I abandoned it. But here’s a summary. Basically, I agree with what you said in those posts. I do not believe that literary works will be unread in the future, as long as society works to remind itself of their value. In fact, I believe that society does not have an infinite threshold of tolerance for technology. (Personally, I have moments when I long for nothing but to dump my computer in the nearest trash bin.) At some point, technology becomes oppressive, and society will correct itself. Meanwhile, those beloved literary works will be the comfort of the technology-jaded.

Hi, Arti!
Thanks for your kind comment on my blog. I am really glad you stopped by. Ripple Effects is excellent! It is so exciting to cross paths with someone who enjoys discussing movies as much as I do. We seem to have some similar interests in terms of film, books, and music. I can’t wait to read through your archives!

Hi, Arti,
I’m so happy you stopped by my blog. I left you a little comment there, and have added you as a “founding member” of my blogroll.
I began my blogging as a part of the WeatherUnderground community. Although my new posts will be primarily at WordPress, it occurs to me you might enjoy reading a recent entry about my choice of mountains rather than ocean
on my About Me page. I’m not certain if this will appear as a link here, but the URL is http://www.wunderground.com/blog/shoreacres/comment.html?entrynum=25&tstamp=200804#commenttop.
If nothing else, you can copy and paste. I think you would enjoy the discussion, as well. I’ll look forward to reading your blog! Linda

Hi Arti;
Thanks for dropping by my blog and for your compliments. I have been enjoying catching up on some of your posts on art and its appearance in movies. I encourage you to take a look at the Stone Angel again. I was floored! I am going to have to take another look at “Witness” and look for that Vermeer lighting…
I most certainly plan to drop by often. Nice to ‘meet’ you!
